Le Mans 24 hours
10.30 - 2.30pm
There isn’t a terrible lot to report back on the last few hours, but it’s been a while since an update was posted…
Drivers are only doing single stints now. Everybody’s feeling fatigued in one way or another. It’s very hot outside and even hotter inside the car.
Mechanics and hospitality staff have all been on shifts, but sleeping is difficult for all.
Lap times have slowed down and steadied off as drivers see the end in sight to this mammoth race. The key is to keep going to the end. It’s been mentioned before that it’s not all about lap times. Particularly now – everybody just wants to see the car home at 5pm.
The Team LNT Panoz is still running in 2nd place; 6 laps down behind the #83 Porsche, but reports are coming in that he has lost third gear. If this is the case, could it be the start of an even bigger problem? Is there debris in the gearbox that may cause other gears to fail? As this is written, there’s still 2 and a half hours to go… Plenty of time for plenty of action.
The Ferrari of Scuderia Ecosse is still running in third; 10 laps behind the Panoz. Kirkaldy’s behind the wheel and still pushing hard, putting in the laptimes of 4.13 – hoping to close the gap ahead of him. He has – slightly, but there is the chance that the car (or the driver!) could be pushed that little bit too far…
At 2.30pm the top 6 GT2 class runners are as follows:
1st # 83 – 293 laps, 2nd #81 – 287 laps, 3rd #87 – 277, 4th #80 – 273 laps, 5th #89 – 256 laps, 6th #93 – 250 laps.
