Ginetta driver Nigel Moore translated his dominant practice form into an assured victory at rounds 8 and 9 of the Formula Palmer Audi opening race at Oulton Park this weekend.

Starting from pole, the 18-year-old enjoyed a good getaway from the line as fellow front-row starter and current championship leader Maxime Jousse bogged down slightly from second. Jousse was forced to defend his position on the opening lap, allowing Moore to build a two second gap which then stayed fairly consistent for the rest of the race.

Having warded off the early attacks from Ramon Pineiro, Jousse did his best to put pressure on Moore in the closing stages, setting the three fastest laps of the race on his final four tours. However, Moore kept his composure, guiding his Ginetta-backed number '6' car to his first win of 2010 - closing the gap to Jousse in the overall championship in the process.

"I got a good start, and built an early gap to (Maxime) Jousse," an elated Nigel Moore explained. "From there it was a case of being consistent, staying on the tarmac and bringing it home. I just tried to keep the gap and I couldn't really have asked for more - although one more win would be perfect!"

Ginetta Chairman, Lawrence Tomlinson who placed Nigel under the prestigious Ginetta driver management programme last year and was on hand to witness his first victory said: "This is an incredible result for Nigel especially since he has only driven the car three times! He dominated the weekend - and in wet weather - showing a real tenacity and cool head to take this important victory. Its great to see him leading the FPA Championship and Ginetta will be out in force at Rockingham to cheer him on - hopefully to another podium!"

The one-make pan-European championship, which was launched by Jonathan Palmer in 1998 has produced no less than nine Formula One drivers including Justin Wilson and triple World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx, with many more racing in premier international championships such as IRL, DTM, FIA GT, British Touring Cars and World Touring Cars.

Moore, whose racing achievements include winning the Ginetta Junior Cup in 2007, the Ginetta G50 Championship in 2008 and becoming the youngest ever British driver at Le Mans in 2009 will be hoping to continue his winning form at rounds 10 and 11 at Rockingham on August 28th.
